Lincoln Democrats Respond to Mr. Azar’s comments
LINCOLN – Responding
to State Senate candidate Lou Azar’s letter to
the editor “Democrats of Lincoln have got to get
together”, Democratic party chairman Timothy E.
McMahon stated that Azar’s comments, hit the mark
exactly, “We’ve worked exceptionally hard
this year to formulate a strategic plan, reach out to
the community, build our platform and develop a formal
endorsement process. In a sound bite, Mr. Azar has succinctly
summed up a full year of hard work by the Lincoln Democratic
Town Committee. We are getting together in a way that
some would say we haven’t in the past”.
Regarding the upcoming election cycle, McMahon said he
was excited about the prospect of supporting candidates
across the spectrum of elected office: “Our role
is that of a support organization. We develop a platform
based on common beliefs from support of our elderly and
our military veterans, to reasonable financial practices
at the town and state level. In this fashion, candidates
and potential candidates know what they can expect from
us in terms of our support of their candidacies if endorsed
by the Committee.”
“While Mr. Azar’s decision to run for the
Senate came as a surprise to me and others in the party,
I do wish him well in this latest endeavor. I expect
that, at some point in the future, he will contact us
regarding his campaign plans. Since Mr. Azar hasn’t
been involved with the Committee in quite some time,
he’ll certainly have some catching up to do”
“As we move into the new year, potential candidates – both
new and seasoned – will begin to firm up their
plans. The Lincoln Democrats will stand ready – and
together – to support our endorsed candidates with
financial help, technical help and personnel. It’s
an exciting time for everyone involved and we look forward
to an election cycle that will influence Lincoln for
years to come.”
